What is Man & Woman of the Year?

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year titles by raising funds for blood cancer research. The candidates compete in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Every dollar counts as one vote, and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of 10 weeks. The top local fundraisers in the country win the national titles.

I lost my beloved grandmother, Belinda Doheny, to leukemia in 1999, and to be able to do this in her honor has meant the world to me. A day doesn't go by that I am not thankful for having her in my life and she will forever remain in my heart.

I am proud to announce that the LLS National Capital Chapter had a record-breaking year. The 19 Man & Woman of the Year contenders collectively raised $1.145 million through 10 weeks of fundraising!

Words cannot begin to express my gratitude for supporting my mission to become the 2013 LLS Woman of the Year. These past 10 weeks have been an incredible journey and something I will never forget. Every dollar makes a difference in furthering the LLS mission to help blood cancer patients live longer, better lives. Thank you for your overwhelming support and generosity!

Jeana's Story

Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign, and this year I was asked to join the fight as a 2013 Woman of the Year candidate for the National Capital Area.
